Quick answer
A new clinic typically needs waiting chairs for reception; an examination couch, foot step, stool and examination light for each consultation room; IV stands, trolleys and a bedside screen for procedures; an autoclave and dressing drums for sterilisation; and a crash cart, suction machine and oxygen trolley for emergencies. Ward beds and lockers are added if you admit patients.
Planning a new clinic, OPD or small nursing home? It's easy to forget items until the first busy day. Use this room-by-room checklist to plan your furniture and equipment, then tick off what you already have.
The exact list depends on your speciality and the services you offer. Check your state's clinical establishment registration requirements and any guidelines from your professional body before you finalise purchases.
1. Reception and waiting area
- Waiting chairs: multi-seater beam chairs save space and are easy to clean. Choose stainless steel (e.g. 3 seater SS Waiting Chairs 304 Grade) for heavy use, or MS with cushions (e.g. 3 seater MS Waiting Chairs with PU Cushion) for comfort. See all Waiting Chairs.
- A wheelchair at the entrance for patients who can't walk in. A Manual Folding Wheelchair folds away when not in use.
2. Consultation and examination room
- Examination couch or table: a Plain Examination Table for basic use, or a storage couch such as the Full Examination Couch 4 Drawer 4 Cabinet to keep linen and supplies in the room.
- Foot step so patients can climb onto the couch safely: Single Foot Step or Double Foot Step.
- Stool for the doctor: MS Stool or SS Stool.
- Examination light for close inspection: Examination Light.
- Bedside screen for patient privacy: Bedside Screen 3 Fold.
- X-ray view box if you review films: X-Ray View Box LED Single.
3. Gynaecology and obstetrics (if applicable)
- Gynaecological examination table, such as the 3 Fold Gynaecological Table or Full Gynaecological Examination Couch. See all Gynae & OPD Tables.
- Labour table if you conduct deliveries: Labour & Sonography or Electric Labour Bed.
4. Dermatology and hair transplant (if applicable)
- Derma chair: a hydraulic chair with stool (Hydraulic Derma Chair with ABS Base, ₹19,500 + GST) suits most skin clinics; an electric 3-motor chair (Electric Derma Chair with ABS Base, from ₹41,000 + GST) lets the doctor move it by remote. Compare them on our Derma Chairs page.
- Order it early: a custom-colour chair takes 7–8 days including delivery, so order it while the interior work is going on, not a few days before opening.
- Lighting and sterilisation: an Examination Light and an autoclave (see section 6).
5. Procedure and dressing room
- IV stands: MS IV Stand with wheel/without Wheel or the more hygienic SS IV Stand with wheel/without Wheel.
- Instrument and dressing trolleys, such as the Mayo Trolley for instruments during procedures.
- Medicine trolley for organised dispensing: Medicine Trolley.
- Suction machine: Suction Machine with Polycarbonate Jar or Suction Machine with Glass Jar.
6. Sterilisation
- Autoclave for steam sterilising instruments: Auto Clave, or the Auto Clave with Automatic Timmer for more controlled cycles.
- Dressing drums to store sterilised gauze and linen: Dressing Drum Jointed / Jointless.
7. Emergency readiness
- Crash cart with emergency drugs and equipment organised in drawers: MS Crash Cart Trolley, SS Crash Cart Trolley or Deluxe Crash Cart Trolley.
- Oxygen cylinder trolley: Small Oxygen Trolley or Jumbo Oxygen Trolley.
- Stretcher on trolley for moving patients: MS Stretcher on Trolley General or SS Stretcher on Trolley General.
- Monitoring and resuscitation as appropriate to your services: 3 Para Monitor Connect Brand, ECG 3 Channel, Defibrillator. See Critical Care & Diagnostics.
8. Ward or day-care beds (if you admit patients)
- Beds: plain or semi-fowler beds for general wards, fowler beds for longer stays, and ICU beds for critical care. See ICU Bed vs Fowler Bed vs Semi-Fowler Bed: What's the Difference?.
- Medical mattresses with washable covers, plus bedside lockers (Plain Bedside Locker) and overbed tables (Overbed / Cardiac Tables).
- Attendant beds for family members: Attendant Bed or Attendant Bed Cum Chair.
Tips for buying clinic equipment
- Prioritise hygiene: stainless steel and smooth powder-coated surfaces are easier to disinfect.
- Measure rooms first: leave space to move around couches and trolleys.
- Buy from one supplier where possible. It simplifies delivery, support and consistent finishes.
- Plan for growth: choose items you can add to as patient numbers increase.

Frequently asked questions
What equipment do I need to start a small clinic?
At minimum: waiting chairs, an examination couch with a foot step, a doctor's stool, an examination light, a bedside screen, IV stands, a dressing or instrument trolley, an autoclave with dressing drums, and basic emergency equipment such as a crash cart, suction machine and oxygen trolley. Add speciality equipment such as a gynae table based on your services.
Which examination couch is best for a clinic?
A storage examination couch with drawers and cabinets keeps linen and supplies within reach and saves space in small rooms. A plain examination table is a good lower-cost option when storage is available elsewhere.
